Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an umbrella term for a collection of lung diseases such as chronic bronchitis, emphysema and chronic asthma. The service offers screening clinics to help aid diagnosis and review patients with COPD.

Who is it for?

The service is provided to adults in East and North Birmingham diagnosed with COPD and respiratory conditions and in Central and West Birmingham as part of wider respiratory services in that locality.

COPD services are not currently offered in South Birmingham.

Who delivers it?

The service is provided by respiratory nurse specialists. Clinics are provided in some GP surgeries and health centres alongside community domiciliary visits.

Additionally, identified healthcare professionals within the service develop and support the implementation of local paediatric asthma pathways.
