Services we provide
We provide assessment and advice to increase independence and quality of life for adults with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
Who is the Service for?
Adults with Multiple Sclerosis and rehabilitation needs.
Referral Process
A referral can be made by any healthcare professional. This goes to a pooled referrals meeting held weekly. If appropriate you will receive an appointment letter with some information about the clinic within 13 weeks of your referral being received by us. A pre-clinic questionnaire will be sent with your appointment letter. This enables us to decide which members of staff should be present at your appointment.
If you would like to make a referral please use the downloadable version of the:
What will happen in the clinic?
You are welcome to bring a relative or carer with you to the clinic. At your appointment you may be seen by one or more members of the team. These could include a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, a Physiotherapist, an Occupational Therapist and a Clinical Counsellor.
What we do at an assessment?
We will ask you about your MS and how it affects your daily activities. We will also ask you questions about your current concerns and problems. You may also have a physical examination to look at strength, coordination, flexibility and physical abilities. It is helpful to bring a list of your current medications with you. Please also bring any splints and walking aids that you regularly use.
What happens after the assessment?
We will discuss our findings and recommendations with you. This may include further assessments or input from other healthcare professionals. This further input maybe from staff at the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre or we may make a referral to a local service. All onward referrals will be agreed with you before being made. We will then agree if you need to be seen again in this clinic and if so when we should book the review appointment. After the clinic a letter is sent back to your referrer and a copy is sent to your GP. You can receive a copy of this letter if you wish.
