Children in care get 'extras' to stay healthy

Our children in care team, based in Handsworth, see over 2,000 looked after children a year for a statutory health assessment.

From height, weight, dental and hearing checks the doctors, nurses and nursing assistants ensure the 0-18 year olds receive the assessments they need to keep them as healthy as possible.

As well as making the relevant referrals staff also give our health promotion advice and leaflets.

Admin manager Jaime Hindmarsh contacted BCHC charity manager Sarah Binks to see if there were funds available.

“We wanted to be able to give out some supplies to the children who attend clinics as well as information and advice.

Often the children in care have nothing, so by having small items to give out to support what we are promoting, such as toothpaste, deodorant and sanitary products we can help them to stay healthy’
