This service is currently delivered only in East, North and South Birmingham.
This is a community-based orthopaeadic triage service for the management of musculoskeletal conditions giving rise to spinal, knee and shoulder symptoms.
Key objectives are to:

offer an alternative to direct secondary care referrals for knee, shoulder and spinal problems. Patients can be triaged to physiotherapy, extended scope practitioner (ESP) or consultant clinics;

provide clinical expertise in the community to effectively manage patientse referred by their GP into the service;

reduce unnecessary referral into secondary care orthopaedic services by providing assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment in the community setting;

signpost referrals to secondary care, if needed, and provide patients’ choice of provider.
Who is it for?
The service is for the management of GP-referred musculoskeletal patients with spinal, knee and shoulder symptoms, who are over the age of 16, registered with a South Birmingham GP and not already seeing a consultant for the condition.
Who delivers it?
The service is provided by extended scope practitioner (ESP) physiotherapists.
