The school Immunisation service provides routine school based immunisations for pupils attending local authority registered schools in Birmingham.
School Immunisation Programme
Around 12-13 years:
- Cervical cancer (HPV) vaccine, which protects against cervical cancer (girls only): this requires a course of three injections.
Around 13-18 years:
- A single injection for Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio: a child requires five in their lifetime for full protection – please check with your General Practitioner that other doses have been given.
- Please note that this may be given by your GP in some areas.
Vaccines for risk groups
Pupils may require additional vaccines such as tuberculosis (TB), Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR). You can get further information about other immunisations that may be required from your G.P Practice, School Nurse or at:

Who delivers the school based Immunisations?
All school based immunisations are delivered by qualified Immunisation Specialist Nurses, and specially trained School Nurses.
