Services we provide
The service provides assessments for people with mobility and other postural problems. The service provides wheelchairs, pressure care cushions and accessories for wheelchairs. If it is appropriate patients can be referred to the Regional Posture and Mobility Service or to other agencies. Assessments are held in a variety of locations e.g. clinic, at home, at a day centre or school.
Wheelchair Repairs
Repairs to our wheelchairs are carried out by a subcontractor JR Wooddisse who can be contacted on 01902 492972.
Who is the Service for?
Any patient who has a GP within a Birmingham PCT and requires a wheelchair for longer than six months.
Referral Process
Any qualified healthcare professional can refer to the service e.g. GP, District Nurse, Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist.
All referrals will be looked at by our Occupational Therapists and prioritised according to BWS service specification.
This may result in direct prescription and supply of equipment to the client by our approved Repairer.
Alternatively a face to face assessment may be required which may be held at a variety of locations.

What will happen in an assessment?
The client’s needs and goals relating to their mobility will be fully discussed with the clinical team and appropriate solutions and equipment acceptable to the client will be provided, within the service criteria.
What happens after the assessment?
The equipment prescribed will be ordered and delivered by our Approved repairer or handed over by our clinical team.
