BCHC, together with its partners the University of Birmingham, Calthorpe Estates and Birmingham and Solihull LIFT (BaS LIFT), can confirm that a final planning application has been submitted to Birmingham City Council, regarding a proposal to build the city’s new Dental Hospital and University’s School of Dentistry on the former Pebble Mill site.
The proposed development is part of Calthorpe Estates’ masterplan to regenerate the site of the old BBC studios. Outline planning permission was granted for a science park at the site in 2003 and this was extended to include a medical facility in 2009, with outline planning permission being granted in November 2011 for the new Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry.
The detailed proposals for the Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry, designed by One Creative Environments Ltd, were shared with local residents, staff and students at a number of public exhibitions held in March this year, providing details of where the five-storey building would be located and CGI images showing how the building would look and be accessed. (These events also followed previous public consultations at the outline planning stage in June 2011.)
A decision regarding the final planning application is expected to be made by the City Council within the next 13 weeks.
The final planning application of 'reserved matters’ relates to those matters of which details were not included in the outline application concerning access, appearance, landscaping, layout and/or scale of the proposed development.
