Birmingham Community Healthcare and the University of Birmingham, together with partners Calthorpe Estates and Birmingham and Solihull LIFT (BaS LIFT), are hosting a display to share designs for the region’s new Dental Hospital and the University’s School of Dentistry, which they are proposing to build on the Pebble Mill site.
The proposed development is part of Calthorpe Estates’ masterplan to regenerate the site of the old BBC studios. Outline planning permission was granted for a science park at the site in 2003 and this was extended to include a private medical facility in 2009.
The outline proposals for the Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry, were submitted to Birmingham City Council in September 2011 following three public events in June last year at which staff, patients and local residents were invited to comment on the plans. These outline proposals were passed by the City Council on 17 November 2011. Since then the development team, including all partners, have been working hard with designers from One Creative Environments on the final plans and designs.
Residents in the local area are being invited to view the proposals in the Deloitte room at the Midlands Arts Centre (mac) anytime between 2pm and 7pm on Wednesday 28 March.
The plans and designs will be shared with staff and students at the current Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry on the same day.
The proposed building aims to provide the services currently offered at the Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry on Whittall Street, in a modern, fit-for-purpose building.
