Better Care

The (future) King and I!

Prince Charles and Leona Tasab at Clarence House
Advanced nurse practitioner Leona Tasab had a Royal appointment to remember when she attended a VIP lunch reception at HRH the Prince of Wales' residence, Clarence House.

And it was a double date to remember because Leona later joined up with BCHC colleagues at the Grosvenor Hotel, London where the adults and community division was among finalists in the Nursing Times Awards.
The division’s integrated model for urgent and non-urgent community based care was also shortlisted in the HSJ Awards, where it won praise from judges as “a great example of continuous improvement”. Leona said: “What a memorable day! It was such an honour to meet Prince Charles and have the opportunity to let him know how
wonderful nurses are generally - and particularly at Birmingham Community Healthcare!

“It was a lovely event - he was friendly and engaging and it was a pleasure to meet him. I’m sure the feeling was mutual!

If someone had said to me growing up in a council house in Billesley that one day I would go for lunch with the future King, I would never have believed it. We work so hard to deliver great care, it’s nice to know it’s appreciated. “Seriously, though, I was really proud to represent our organisation and, alongside being finalists in some prestigious national awards, it was great to know that our hard work has received external recognition in some very high places!”
