City children’s information and advice service launched

A new information and advice service has been launched for all children, young people and families in Birmingham

A new telephone hotline has been launched, bringing together a range of information and advice services to support children, young people and families in Birmingham.

The children, young people and families directorate of Birmingham City Council (CYPF) has been undertaking a long-term review and redesign of its public-facing services with a view to improving levels of responsiveness and customer service.

A key element of this redesign is to house all customer-facing services, including social care switchboards; the information, advice and support service; the family information service; and elements of school admissions and pupil placement, under one roof and under common management arrangements.

The new service is called the children’s information and advice service (CIAS).

The children’s information and advice service has been established to provide high quality first-point-of-contact service for families, children and professionals.

The vision is to ensure consistency in handling enquiries, provide efficient and effective transfers to specialist teams when required and reduce transfer points between services, thereby improving safeguarding procedures.

Skilled and experienced staff from the above teams have been brought together to operate the new service and are working collaboratively to deal with all types of enquiries at the first point of contact to reduce the number of irrelevant calls being made to specialist teams and improve the speed and consistency of referrals for support and intervention.

The contact number for the children’s information and advice service is 0121 303 1888.

This number should be used as the first point of contact for the services listed below:

All previously used phone numbers will continue to work and will be forwarded onto the new CIAS service.

The CIAS now operates from Birmingham City Council offices at Lancaster Circus.
