Thousands of people enjoyed family fun in the sun at the official launch of Birmingham Forward Steps - the new health and wellbeing service for pre-school children.

The event took place at the Midland Arts Centre (MAC) in Cannon Hill Park. Staff from health visiting and children's centre teams across the city were represented plus key delivery partners such as Homestart, the Pre-School Learning Alliance, BookstartBump , Holiday Kitchen and Kids UK.

Speech and language therapists, infant feeding co-ordinators and dietitians were also on hand to give out information and engage in fun activities for children under five.

The party atmosphere was helped along by facepainters, baby opera, a fire engine and crew dropping in, a treasure hunt led by Birmingham Park Rangers and Change4Life ,who ran several activities in the park.

An additional 2,500 people passed through the MAC on the day and many took time to say how wonderful it all was and can we do it again next year!!

Local launches in each of the 10 Birmingham Forward Steps districts are now set to take place over August as part of continuing efforts to involve families and ensure their views, needs and wishes are central to the process of developing services.
