A citywide model of adult community care provided by integrated multidisciplinary teams is officially launched this week.

Following the conclusion of consultation with Birmingham Community Healthcare employees, a staged rollout of the proposed structure is under way with all changes due to be in place by the end of May.

Pat Hackett, director of adults and community division, said: "Our staff have been very active in shaping a new model for the whole city with the flexibility to respond to local needs.

“That will mean more care provided in the community, helping to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions and enabling people to be discharged earlier back to their homes where they belong.

"Our aim throughout this process has been to put in place a robust, consistent and equitable structure across the city with the flexibility to meet the challenges ahead."

Updates on the new structure will be notified directly to key stakeholders, in particular Birmingham GPs, and published on the integrated multidisciplinary teams page of the BCHC website.
