Better Care

National recognition for Team BCHC

BCHC is delighted to have been shortlisted no fewer than FOUR times in this year’s Nursing Times Awards.

  1. In the infection prevention category, our COVID swabbing team is shortlisted for its work to support early identification and management of cases in order to reduce transmission of the virus. The team offers a rapid response to outbreaks and individual cases across a variety of setting including care homes, schools, homeless shelters, prisons, hospitals, workplaces and places of worship. The team also provides rapid testing for NHS staff to enable staff to return to work as early as possible.

  1. Head of adult community specialist services Katie Welborn has been shortlisted for the nurse of the year award, her nomination particularly highlighting her lead role in establishing and developing our new enhanced support service for care homes as the pandemic escalated.
  2. The citywide early intervention programme has been nominated in the ‘care of older people’ category for the innovative work to develop a new integrated health and social care partnership in Birmingham and, particularly in 2020/21, its critical role in the city’s response to the pandemic.
  3. As part of this groundbreaking work, our early intervention community team has been recognised for its crucial role in preventing hospital admission, or facilitating quicker discharges, thus maximising inpatient bed capacity by being named on the shortlist for the team of the year award.

Our success in earning four shortlistings in the Nursing Times awards follows our double shortlisting in the 2021 HSJ Patient Safety Awards.
