Introduction

Ward 12 West Heath Hospital usually provides a specialist rehabilitation service for Older Adults who have had recent Orthopaedic surgery.

Who is it for?

This surgery may be following a broken bone due to a fall or trauma or it may be planned ‘Elective’ surgery, such as a total hip or knee replacement.

Referrals are received from other hospitals such as the Queen Elizabeth or the Royal Orthopaedic, and patients must have stated rehab goals, with the potential to improve.

What do we do?

The ward provides a safe, clean and friendly environment and our team of Doctors, Nurses, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists work with patients to help them reach their full potential, so together we make every effort to promote independence wherever possible.

Whilst on the ward, patients remain under the care of a medical consultant who visits weekly and the orthopaedic surgeons from the referring hospital, review patients regularly post-operatively.
