Autism Roadshow Offers Superb Support
Thanks to funding from Cadent Gas and their safeguarding team, BCHC Charity's Direct Access to Wellbeing Services (DAWS) Team were able to host an Autism Support Roadshow at the Edgbaston Stadium on Thursday 30 October. The event was designed to offer families the opportunity to gain advice and guidance from local services and organisations about the support available for Autism in Birmingham.
Almost 300 people attended the event, which included 40 different exhibitor stands from Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and external groups such as Autism West Midlands, Gateway Family Services CIC, The Learning Bus and many more. One attendee found the event very helpful; “Thank you for a brilliant roadshow. The information provided was invaluable!”
The event also offered Autism-friendly crafting sessions, free health and benefits checks, and featured a sensory room with equipment from The Sensory Den and OM Interactive Ltd. One parent said, “The sensory area was great; my son tried some of the dens and sensory equipment which I will be able to get him now, knowing what helps him.”
The DAWS Team were on hand to offer information on how to keep well and warm at home by providing information on the PSR (Priority Service Register), energy saving tips and tricks, and more.
Another attendee reflected on their experience at the roadshow; “The event improved my understanding of the support available in Birmingham for individuals with Autism. Speaking directly with different organisations provided valuable insight into the services offered and how they can benefit individuals and families.”
BCHC Charity and the DAWS Team would like to say a huge thank you to all the exhibitors at the event for making it such a successful day.
