Sensory Support at Kingswood Drive
BCHC Charity have been able to provide sensory equipment for Kingswood Drive thanks to funding from The John Avins Trust and the W.A. Cadbury Charitable Trust.
Kingswood Drive provides both residential and respite care for adults who have diverse learning disabilities and sensory impairment in addition to complex health needs. Sensory items are hugely beneficial for people with learning disabilities as they can reduce stress, encourage relaxation, enhance focus, and improve emotional regulation. Using the items with BCHC staff also supports engagement with the residents, helping them to develop social skills in a supportive environment.
Helena Ordish, Team Lead at Kingswood Drive, approached the charity to fund sensory lighting equipment and toys to help create a more tranquil environment and improve therapeutic interventions at the centre. The charity were able to provide a variety of different sensory lights and toys, including a fibre optic ceiling display, colour changing LED light tube, cube light colour changing mood blocks, night lights, a mini fake jellyfish aquarium mood lamp tank, textured light up rugby balls, and more.
Helena wanted to give her personal thanks to both charitable trusts and to BCHC Charity for making this possible and shared that “the sensory items have bought real comfort and calm to our clinical environment spaces, supporting patient wellbeing and enhancing the care we provide.”
