A 'jab' well done! Celebrating BCHC's improved flu vaccination uptake
Peer Vaccinators came together at Moseley Hall Hospital this week to celebrate the success of the Trust's 2025/26 flu vaccination campaign.
Between October 2025 and March 2026, more than 70 committed peer vaccinators from across all clinical divisions and corporate services went above and beyond their day-to-day roles to deliver flu vaccinations to colleagues across the organisation. At the celebratory event, Gwen Gerald-Briscoe, Associate Director of Nursing, shared the fantastic news that every clinical service (Adult Community Services, Adult and Specialist Rehabilitation, Learning Disability Services, Dental Services, Children and Families) recorded an increase in flu vaccine uptake this year, an achievement that plays a crucial role in protecting our most vulnerable patients and peers.
A total of 2,562 colleagues received their flu vaccinations, an increase of 9% from 2024/25. This rapid improvement is a direct result of the hard work our peer vaccinators put in to ensure we keep our communities, patients, and colleagues safe and well.
Lorraine Galligan, Chief of Nursing and Therapies, thanked attendees for their exceptional commitment, acknowledging the challenge of balancing peer vaccinator responsibilities alongside their substantive roles during a particularly busy winter period.
The group were each awarded a certificate and voucher by Gwen, Lynn Whitehouse, Interim Nurse Consultant Infection Prevention and Control and Mandy Brailey, Infection Prevention and Control Matron, as a small token of appreciation for going over and above their day jobs.
Bringing the 2025/26 flu campaign to a close, colleagues also took the opportunity to reflect on successes and lessons learned, while already setting ambitious plans in motion for the 2026/27 campaign.
