All the best, Ann

After almost five decades nursing in the NHS, Ann Ursell recently retired from her role at Moseley Hall Hospital (MHH), where she has worked (mostly) since the 1970’s.
Ann spent the last decade of career as a senior night nurse at MHH, although her previous roles have been within our respite services - prominently supporting older adults.
"I have always wanted to be a nurse." says Ann. Her first role in the NHS, as an auxiliary nurse was based at MHH. Just a month later she was accepted onto nursing training and spent five years at City Hospital, before returning to MHH in 1982. "I had a brief change where I worked in dermatology then in 1986, I came back to Moseley Hall and have been here ever since." says Ann.
Throughout the years Ann sought opportunities to develop her career, eventually becoming a clinical team leader and worked on a project to help newly qualified nurses settle into working in a clinical setting.
Ann shares: "More than anything I have always enjoyed the patient contact… When you can see you have made a difference, even if it’s the tiniest thing, it means so much to patients. I have loved working with the junior nurses and healthcare assistants seeing how they develop skills and gain confidence and experience to do the best for our patients. I've had a wonderful time, and I have met some wonderful people along the way. I'm going to miss them."
After her last ever shift, Ann was greeted by staff across MHH, who presented her with flowers and presents and came to say goodbye.
“Ann is big part of Moseley Hall and in us providing high quality, safe care to our patients. She is a consistent figure on nights providing support at ward level supporting, healthcare assistants and registered nurses, but also at a senior management level, to the inpatient matrons and on call managers. Her support and dedication will be truly missed, but the impact of her leaving won't be felt until after her leaving.” said Annmarie Walchester, Matron of Ward 8 and 9 at MHH.
We wish Ann all the best for her retirement and future adventures.
