BCHC appoints Meagan Fernandes as new Chief People Officer
Meagan Fernandes is to become the new Chief People Officer at Birmingham Community Healthcare. Meagan will join BCHC later in the summer from Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, in a role made vacant following the retirement of long-serving postholder David Holmes.
Meagan is an award-winning people and organisational development director with significant experience of leading and transforming large People and OD functions. She has delivered large-scale cultural, leadership, and workforce transformation programmes that have improved staff experience, strengthened performance and enabled high quality care.
As senior responsible officer for the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital workforce programme, she led one of the most significant new hospital workforce transformations in recent years. Meagan also has a strong track record in tackling inequalities, building strong trade union partnership working relationships, leading multi-agency partnerships and expanding access to education, skills and employment for local communities. Meagan was recognised nationally as the NHS England Health People Management Association Deputy Director of the Year in 2023.
Meagan said: “I am delighted to be joining BCHC and particularly at such an important time in the Trust's development, with the increased focus on transforming staff experience and strong emphasis on the role of community and neighbourhood services within the wider system. I look forward to working with colleagues to enhance and develop BCHC's people and culture.”
Richard Kirby, BCHC chief executive, said: "I am really pleased that we have been able to make such a strong appointment to this key role, and look forward to welcoming Meagan later in the summer. I am sure that we can benefit significantly from Meagan's skills in this important leadership role as we work towards achieving our objective to become a Great Place to Work.
“At the same time, I would also like to thank David Holmes for the huge contribution he has made both to BCHC and the NHS more widely through such a distinguished and committed career, and wish him a long and happy retirement.”
