BCHC hosts information day for families awaiting Autism assessment

Neurodevelopment team with CEO Richard Kirby at event

Families and professionals across Birmingham came together this week for a special information day hosted by our Neurodevelopmental Pathway (NDP) team, designed to offer practical support, guidance, and reassurance to those with children awaiting an autism assessment.

Delivered in partnership with Sense, a disability charity for people with complex needs, the event took place at the TouchBase Pears centre in Selly Oak. It aimed to give parents and carers the chance to access expert advice, explore local support services, and better understand what to expect from the assessment process.

While children are on the Autism Pathway at BCHC, our NDP team offers a dedicated support hub, advice line, and a programme of workshops to help families navigate this period. Sense's new Fairer Futures service in Birmingham adds another layer of support - working not only with parents and carers, but also with the professionals who support them.

By joining forces, BCHC and Sense created an informative event where families could speak directly with professionals involved in the assessment journey, access resources tailored to their child's needs and learn about organisations across Birmingham offering further support.

Adding a touch of fun for children who were present,  Magic Party (Balloonatics)  entertained attendees with colourful balloon creations and magic tricks - making the day as enjoyable as it was informative.
