Celebrating Black History Month 2025

Today marks the beginning of Black History Month, a time that gives everyone the opportunity to share, celebrate and understand the impact of black heritage and culture.
To celebrate with the globe, the Cultural Diverse Network hosted a Black History Month event at Moseley Hall Hospital under this year's theme, 'Standing Firm in Power and Pride' honouring the strength, creativity and cultural richness of the Black community while allowing colleagues to showcase stories, talents and expressions that inspired pride and unity. The day also consisted of a culture expo for colleagues to explore and learn with Violets Restaurant hosting a themed lunch.
Contracts assistant - finance, TeeJahy Adeyemi who hosted the event alongside Information Governance Compliance/Privacy Officer, Lana Warner said:
For me, being able to host BCHC's Black History Month event was a real honour and something very close to my heart. I'm someone who's naturally energetic, who loves to stand out, bring people together and be part of something meaningful — so this event feels like the perfect opportunity to do all of that. It's about more than just hosting; it's about making a difference, helping people feel proud of their heritage and giving colleagues a space to celebrate who they are.
It was great seeing the room filled with people sharing stories, culture, food, and experiences — those moments of connection are what make events like this so powerful.
Lana followed this with:
Hosting BCHC's Black History Month event has been a vibrant and meaningful experience for me, both personally and professionally. As a member of the Culturally Diverse Network, I felt proud to help shape a celebration that honours heritage, amplifies voices, and brings people together in a space filled with pride, colour, and connection. I loved being able to infuse the day with energy and warmth, making sure it reflected the richness of our community.
The event created space for colleagues to celebrate their heritage in ways that feel authentic and empowering—from spoken word performances and live music, to the Black Heritage and Culture Expo, which showcased traditional clothing, cultural cuisines, and stories that reflect the diversity within BCHC. It's been a celebration not just of history, but of identity and pride in the present.
One of the moments I most looked forward to was hosting the interview session with BCHC leaders which gave colleagues the chance to hear powerful reflections on leadership, culture, and standing firm in power and pride. Alongside that, the live rap performances, choir, and interactive activities added a dynamic rhythm to the day, making it a truly immersive experience.
More than anything, this event has been about connection—creating moments where people feel seen, celebrated, and inspired. That's what makes it so special to me, and I'm grateful to have played a part in it.”
