Celebrating Community Services

It's Community Services Week, which means we're focussing on each of our five clinical divisions and how they make a huge difference to Birmingham communities.
Today we'll be spotlighting our dental division, who are not just sited at Birmingham Dental Hospital. There's many examples of excellent dental care that takes place in the community, such as the work carried out by our oral health improvement practitioners.
In a bid to keep tiny teeth healthy, the team visit family hubs located across Birmingham and the Black Country, offering toothbrushing workshops that provide tips and tricks to ensure our little locals have healthier, stronger teeth.
Together, the team distribute toothbrushes and toothpaste for children attending the sessions, whilst providing parents with evidence-based information that can make toothbrush time easier and highlight the importance of brushing twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste.
Helen Potter, one of our oral health improvement practitioners is always armed with fun educational props to entertain teething toddlers. Parents who attend are also able to ask questions, where the oral health improvement practitioners will offer guidance.
Our workshops help to teach children from an early age about good oral hygiene - an important life skill that starts from the first tooth. Maintaining clean and healthy baby teeth sets the foundations for practicing good oral hygiene for the rest of our lives.
