Celebrating our apprentices
To close our National Apprenticeship Week celebrations, we spoke with physiotherapist Jo Oliver, who completed her MSc physiotherapy apprenticeship in 2025.
After joining the Trust as a physiotherapy assistant on Moseley Hall Hospital's ward 8, seeing the amazing teamwork that takes place and coming from an Army background, Jo instantly knew this was the right path for her to take as she explains:
Seeing everyone work together with the same goal of helping our service users gave me a sense of achievement and belonging and I knew that this was something I wanted to be part of, which is why I joined the apprenticeship programme, and thanks to this, I gained the knowledge, skills and confidence to step into the role I am in today.
Throughout my whole apprenticeship, I have consistently been supported and encouraged by my managers, mentors and colleagues within every team. The South Therapy Hub community team wanted me to succeed and even celebrated my success upon completion.
I was able to apply my learning into practice across a wide range of services such as amputee rehab, inpatient care, community physiotherapy and musculoskeletal outpatients and on each clinical placement I immediately felt part of the team, the expertise and support of my educators enabled me to succeed. This support made the harder more demanding periods more manageable.
I would absolutely recommend an apprenticeship with BCHC, they offer a balance of academic learning and hands-on experience and give an environment where apprentices are supported throughout their journey, they also make you feel consistently valued. It is a great opportunity to develop your career.
Progressing from a physiotherapy assistant is something I am genuinely proud of and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to complete my apprenticeship and the support given to me throughout and the continued support I am getting within the Trust.
