Dr Peter Mayer awarded British Empire Medal

Dr Peter Mayer, long-serving BCHC Governor, has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the King’s Birthday Honours List announced in June 2025.
The honour is in recognition of services to the NHS, with the BEM specifically awarded to people for sustained contribution within their community. Following a distinguished career in geriatric medicine, and retiring as a Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine and Stroke Medicine, Peter has undertaken many voluntary roles related to health, education and community.
Peter is a long-time supporter of BCHC and advocate for community services, and served as a BCHC Governor for nine years (2013-22) including several years as Lead Governor. Peter continues to be involved in a wide range of voluntary roles.
Professor David Sallah, BCHC Trust Chair, said: “I am delighted to offer congratulations on behalf of the BCHC Board and all our colleagues to Peter on this very well-deserved recognition. Peter has contributed so much to this organisation and the NHS as a whole through so many years, as a Governor and in other roles too, and always in such good spirit and friendship. His commitment and energy to improving BCHC and the NHS make this recognition a just reward.”
