New Chair of the Birmingham and Solihull GP Partnership Board named
The new GP Chair of the Birmingham and Solihull GP Partnership Board has today been named as Dr Subeena Suleman.
Following a vote amongst the Primary Care Network Clinical Directors who make up the GP Partnership Board, Subeena - GP Partner at Iridium Medical Practice and Clinical Director for Bordesley East Primary Care Network - has been confirmed in the role.
Subeena has been working as a GP since 2010, mainly in East Birmingham. She became a Lead Executive Partner at Iridium Medical Practice in Bordesley Green in 2016, and is a firm believer in enabling and encouraging a culture driven by quality improvement and impactful outcomes delivery.
In the last two years, Subeena has led the East Locality, bringing six Primary Care Networks together caring for over 250,000 patients. Her work cemented the formation of East Connect as a Community Integrated Care legal entity - creating a shift in culture to focus more on population health management within the locality.
Subeena also led the creation of East Birmingham Locality Hub, integrating chronic disease pathways across the locality and leading work in Integrated Neighbourhood Teams. She is also leading the Right Access Transformative programme across primary care and is the Chair of the GP Provider Support Unit Steering Group.
Subeena said: “It's a privilege to be appointed Chair of the Partnership Board. Our strength lies in collaboration — by working together, sharing learning, and supporting one another, we can continue to improve access, quality, and continuity of care for our patients. I'm excited to help shape the next chapter for our partnership.”
David Melbourne, Chief Executive of NHS Birmingham and Solihull and NHS Black Country said: “Subeena is already recognised as an outstanding leader with the vision and capability to deliver transformation while keeping patients and our communities at the heart of everything we do. I am confident she will lead our GP Partnership Board with distinction, and I look forward to continuing our
work together over the coming months.
“I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to outgoing GP Partnership Board Chair Dr Sunando Ghosh for his leadership and support. He has been a core member of the Birmingham and Solihull leadership team and a passionate advocate for the GP sector.”
Suzanne Cleary, Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Officer for Strategy & Partnerships at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust said: “We have been working increasingly closely with GP and primary care colleagues in recent years as key partners in the Birmingham and Solihull Community Care Collaborative. We will continue to work in partnership to deliver on the 10-year plan and build better neighbourhood health services. Primary care will be central to that and Subeena's leadership to date of the development of our locality partnership in East Birmingham, and the wider Collaborative, has been outstanding. I know she will go from strength-to-strength as she leads our GP Partnership Board.”
The GP Partnership Board provides an opportunity for representatives from across the system to come together and ensure the voice of primary care feeds into the wider system. Dr Suleman will take up the role of Chair very shortly.
