 The Birmingham Community Healthcare (BCHC) Patient Engagement Portal gives patients convenient and secure access to key information about their care.

The portal allows you to view your upcoming and past BCHC appointments, read some documents, and access a growing range of digital services that will continue to expand as development progresses.

 

The portal is accessed through your NHS login using any:

  • smartphone,
  • tablet,
  • computer.

 

No app download is required. Once you sign in, you can view information that relates specifically to your BCHC services.

What is the BCHC Patient Engagement Portal?

The Patient Engagement Portal is a secure online platform designed to help patients access information about their BCHC healthcare. The portal enables you to log in at any time of day to:

  • see your appointments,
  • read certain documents,
  • and keep track of information provided by the services involved in your care.

 

The platform is being developed in collaboration with clinical teams, digital staff and patient representatives to ensure it is easy to use, accessible and aligned with what patients need.

What can you use the portal for?

Available now

The current version of the portal includes features such as: 

  • View upcoming BCHC appointments in date order.
  • View past appointments, including those that were cancelled.
  • Access some letters and clinical documents.
  • Use NHS login for secure authentication.
  • Access on any web browser without installing an app.

 

These features support patients by providing quick visibility of their BCHC care without needing to contact services for routine appointment information.

Coming soon

Several features are in development and will be released as part of the next major update:

  • Email and text message notifications for appointment updates and new documents.
  • Questionnaires and patient feedback forms.
  • Access for parents, carers or individuals who support patients in managing their healthcare.
  • Enhanced document visibility as additional document types become available.
  • Improved integration with NHS services to streamline access and reduce duplication.

 

These enhancements are designed to give patients greater autonomy and more opportunities to contribute to their care experience.

As further developments are implemented, the portal will become a central tool in supporting digital communication between patients and BCHC services. 

Who can use the portal?

The BCHC Patient Engagement Portal is available to patients who meet the following criteria: 

  • Aged 13 or over.
  • Registered with a GP in England. 
  • Have an NHS number.
  • Are currently receiving, or have recently received, care from Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

 

The portal will continue to be expanded over time to support more types of services and patient groups.

What do you need to access the portal?

To use the BCHC portal, you will need:

  • A smartphone, tablet or computer.
  • An active internet connection.
  • An NHS login (email address and password).

 

If you do not already have an NHS login, you will be prompted to set one up during registration. You may be asked to confirm your identity to ensure your health records remain secure.

Accessing the portal

  • Select “Continue with NHS login” and sign in using your NHS account.
  • Once logged in, you will be taken directly to your BCHC information, including your appointments and available documents.
  • If you already use the NHS App, your existing NHS login can be used to access the portal without any additional setup.

How to register

Registration is straightforward and can be completed in a few steps.

  • Step 1: create or sign in with your NHS login: you will be prompted to use your NHS login, which securely verifies your identity.
  • Step 2: access the BCHC Portal: once your NHS login is ready, return to the BCHC Portal link and sign in.
  • Step 3: registration complete: after logging in successfully, your BCHC Portal account will be active. You will then be able to view your appointments and the documents available to you.

 

We recommend saving or bookmarking the portal link for easy access.

Support and troubleshooting

Incorrect information 

If you believe information is missing or inaccurate, please contact the BCHC service responsible for your care. For appointment queries, use the contact details provided in your appointment letter.

 

NHS login support

For issues with your NHS login, such as password resets or identification checks, visit the NHS support website.

 

Technical issues 

If the portal is not loading or features are not working correctly, please contact BCHC via the website contact form and select “Patient Portal” as your reason for contacting us. Please avoid including personal medical information in the message.

Upcoming developments

The Patient Engagement Portal is being developed in phases. BCHC is working closely with patients, carers, clinical staff and digital partners to shape the future of the platform.

 

Planned developments include:

  • Appointment notifications by email and SMS.
  • Digital patient questionnaires and forms.
  • Access for parents and carers.
  • Access to additional document types. 
  • Improved integration with the NHS App for appointment management.
