Helping children thrive: Practical occupational therapy support for families
Occupational therapists make a real difference to service users' quality of life by helping them take part in everyday activities with greater confidence and independence. Their work is not simply about helping people to be present, it is about enabling them to participate fully. From supporting independent selfcare and motor skills to finding practical ways to make daily tasks easier, occupational therapy creates real and lasting impact.
BCHC occupational therapists work with children, their parents, carers, and schools out in the community across Birmingham.
Our OTs recently held a parent workshop at Oasis Short Heath Academy in Erdington, showing our young patients and their parents or carers practical ways to help improve their children's concentration. Combining theory with hands-on learning, parents took part in a sensory circuit and gained ideas and techniques they could use at home.
