Local MP visits West Heath Hospital
Local MP Laurence Turner gained an insight into BCHC's innovative approach to patient care and service transformation during a visit to West Heath Hospital.
Laurence (Labour, Northfield) visited our new south locality hub to find out more about how a data-driven approach is enabling better co-ordination of care pathways so that more people can be cared for safely in their own home, easing pressure on acute hospital services.
The roll-out of locality hubs - also being referred to as 'neighbourhood hubs' to reflect the approach set out in the National Neighbourhood Health Implementation Programme - is now complete, with five now operational in Birmingham and Solihull.
Laurence met clinical teams in our palliative end-of-life care facility and in sub-acute wards, where he talked to staff about our plans to increase the number of inpatient beds available in readiness for increasing seasonal pressures on the whole health and care system.
He also spent time chatting to our estates and facilities team about ongoing work to reduce the carbon footprint of West Heath and Moseley Hall hospitals thanks to a £7 million public sector decarbonisation scheme grant.
Air and water source heat pumps and other energy efficiency improvement such as new roof insulation and solar panels are being installed as part of significant improvements to the energy efficiency at both sites.
Following his visit, the MP said: "I t's seriously impressive to see the improvements that Birmingham Community Healthcare is making to care for older people and people at the end of life, as well as the better use of data to reduce delays. It was a real privilege to spend time with such talented and dedicated staff."
