Occupational therapy: building confidence and independence
After overcoming a major trauma to the body, it can take a while to physically and mentally recover. It takes compassionate and committed multidisciplinary care to support our patients to gain confidence and independence again.
With the help from occupational therapists, patients such as Jamie Harshorne and Shahed Munir are gradually regaining strength and the ability to do the everyday activities they once did. Activities such as making breakfast independently or building up strength to play a favourite video game.
Occupational Therapist apprentices like Traian Balaceanu and Occupational Therapists like Megan Hewetson will work with patients, establishing what their goals are and work with them from there.
Using key occupational therapy interventions, colleagues will assess a patient's physical and mental ability and provide tailored care that will hopefully build up to them achieving their goal.
