Paediatrician calls for better support for parents following sudden unexplained child deaths

Consultant community paediatrician Dr Jo Garstang has called for better support for parents in a Panorama documentary looking at the levels of support available to families around the country following the sudden unexplained death of a child.

In addition to her role in BCHC’s children and families services, Jo is also divisional research lead; designated doctor for child death for the Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care Board; a clinical associate professor at the University of Birmingham; and chair of the Association of Child Death Review Professionals.

SUDC provision in Birmingham and Solihull is recognised nationally as an example of good practice. The 30-minute programme is available to view on the BBC iPlayer.
