There's no place like home: How occupational therapists support independent living
This week, we have been showcasing how varied the role of an occupational therapist (OT) can be.
We have explored how OTs support children and families, inpatients in a clinical setting, how they help build confidence, regain strength and even support with getting people into the workplace. Today, it was only fitting to end on how our occupational therapists help people stay independent in the comfort of their own home.
In a service user's home, occupational therapists consider all our service user's needs, including physical, psychological, social, and environmental. We appreciate that for many of those who we care for, there's no place like home.
OTs visit people's homes to understand their needs and determine whether home adaptations or additional equipment could make everyday activities safer and support greater independence.
