About waiting times
The waiting times we show are the average times for children who were assessed or diagnosed that month.
We book appointments based on how urgent the child’s needs are and how long they’ve been waiting. This means some children may be seen sooner or later than the average time.
Our services are very busy, but we are working hard to improve the process and reduce waiting times.
ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)
- Children referred in July 2025 waited about 17 months for their first ADHD assessment.
- They waited about 19 months for their diagnosis appointment.
- After diagnosis, the wait to start medication is around 12 months.
Autism
- Children referred in July 2025 waited about 26 months for their first Autism assessment.

If you're unable to make your appointment, please contact Central Booking Service with as much notice as possible, so that we can offer the appointment to someone else.
In 2024, we lost 133 ADHD and 194 Autism assessment appointments due to children not attending or cancelling at short notice. These appointments could have been offered to another child waiting for their assessment.
