Occupational Therapy Skill Builders

Paediatric occupational therapists support children and young people to carry out activities they need, want, or are expected to do, but are prevented from doing due to impairments, injuries or developmental conditions.

The Occupational Therapy (OT) Skill Builders programme aims to upskill a member of staff to deliver an OT based intervention group within mainstream secondary school settings. OT Skill Builders focuses on topics which support the development of a young person’s independent life skills for transition into adulthood.

Topics include:

Media leisure  Developing skills needed for young people to participate in leisure activities such as playing video games, socialising with peers and touch typing.
Travel Developing the skills needed to stay safe whilst travelling to school via different methods, for example walking or the bus.
Meal preparation Developing the skills needed for meal preparation and highlighting challenges young people may face.

SEND Occupational Therapists will support your member of staff to design of session plans, facilitate intervention groups and assess young people both pre- and post-intervention.
